Rabea Hinsching | PhD Candidate in Economics
About Me

I am a PhD candidate in Economics at the University of East Anglia. My research is in applied microeconomics, with a focus on development, natural resources, and political economy. I am particularly interested in the role of private companies in the international development sphere and how their actions shape local outcomes.
My job market paper examines the developmental impact of mining companies’ social investments in South Africa’s Gauteng Province. You can find the latest draft here.
As part of my research, I collected data on mining companies’ social investments from corporate reports using a GPT-based algorithm. The code for the project is available on my GitHub. I am currently developing this dataset into a publicly accessible project tracker. An early version is available on this website under “CSI Tracker”.
